Sir Henry John Newbolt was an English poet, novelist and historian. He also had a very powerful role as a government adviser, particularly on Irish issues and with regard to the study of English in England. He is perhaps best remembered for his poems "Vitaï Lampada" and "Drake's Drum". Arthur David McCormick was a notable British illustrator and painter of landscapes, historical scenes, naval subjects, and genre scenes.
Condition Report: Light wear with scuffing and soil to vellum; front free endpaper excised, binding somewhat shaken, some guards detached or starting, lacking ties; about very good.
