Dronino Meteorite Slice Iron, ungrouped Ryazanskaya oblast', Russia - (54° 44' 48"N, 41° 25' 18"E) Found: July 2000 Dronino is a unique and captivating variety of Iron meteorite, especially when cut and polished to a mirror finish like this fine specimen weighing 144.4 grams. The ataxite found in Russia in 2000 does not display a Widmanstätten pattern like so many other Iron meteorites when etched and instead has numerous "ameboid" shaped Iron Sulfide inclusions that dot the reflective surface in an unusual, if not surreal, contrasting manner. This free-from-shaped thin slab measures over 5 inches (12.7 cm) at maximum dimension and is amazingly finished on both relatively expansive faces. An ungrouped Iron, Dronino exudes individualism and looks different from most other Iron meteorites, especially when cut and polished. While quite thin, this slab is noticeably strong. This slice is simply stunning. Measurements: 5.19 x 3.14 x 0.11 inches (13.18 x 7.98 x 0.28 cm), weighs 144.4 grams HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
