Duez, Nathanael. Nathanaelis Duesii Compendium Grammaticae Gallicae; BOUND WITH, Dictionnaire Francois, Alleman & Latin [French-German-Latin]; BOUND WITH, Dictionarium Germanico-Gallico-Latinum [German-French-Latin Dictionary; Fran?ais-Allemand-Latin]. Published by Iohan Ant and Samuel De Tournes, Geneva, 1611
Half Morocco Leather. Condition: Good. First Edition. THREE (3) BOOKS bound together [1647, 1611 and 1671]. ITEM#1: This doesn't have a title page but does have a half title: Compendium Grammaticae Gallicae: in gratiam illorum editum, qui Germanicum idoma perfecte non callent. This matches the following item in WorldCat (OCLC: 32328362): Nathanaelis Duesii Compendium grammaticae Gallicae: in gratiam illorum editum, qui Germanicum idoma perfecte non callent. Lugd[uni] Batavor[um]: Ex officina Elzeviriorum, 1647. The book is definitely by Nathanael Duez who signs his name in the preface. 44pp. ITEM #2: The second book is also lacking title page. Half title is Dictionnaire Francois, Alleman & Latin. This matches a book found in WorldCat (OCLC: 42611968) also without a title page [Dictionnaire francois-alleman-latin]. This, according to that database, was issued in 1611 in Genevae "ex typographia Jacobi Stoer". 744pp. ITEM #3: The third book is titled" Dictionarium Germanico- Gallico- Latinum = Teutsch, Frantzosisch, und Lateinisch Dictionarium" by Nathanael Duez issed in In Genff [Geneva]: bey Iohan Ant. und Samuel De Tournes, 1671. 587pp. Book description: 18th century half brown morocco leather with grey-blue boards. Plain paper with black lettering on spine. Spine has five raised bands. The boards appear original and are heavily worn. The leather is moderately worn but still in good condition. All edges colored red. Signature on the front free endpage in ink which reads "Exlibris Josephi Thoma Faslino Jacerooti, 1782." The book appears to have been bound sometime in the late 18th century using the original boards with new (18th century) endsheets. The book has been trimmed when the three were bound together. There is no margin to the top of these books with a quarter inch margin elsewhere. The first and second books suffer clipping of the running title and the page numbers. Overall in GOOD condition. Nathanael Duez was French expatriat who spent most of his life working in Leiden as a teacher of French, Italian and German at the university. He was a prolific writer of linguistic books many of which are important for modern language teaching. Most his books went through several editions being corrected, enlarged or reduced by Duez himself. These were often reprinted, re-edited and pirated throughout Europe while he was alive and long after his death. Duez was the recognised expert in lexiconical & grammatical matters between 1639 and 1700 in French, German & Italian. Photos available upon request. Size: 12mo - over 6?" - 7?" tall. Hardcover
