"Thymelaea, Garou" (No. 12, Tome II, Plate 93) is a hand-colored woodcut from Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau's Traite des Arbres et Arbustes. It shows a whole plant of daphne, a dense shrub of upright leafy shoots with its roots, with the heading, number and page reference above.

Duhamel du Monceau's Traite des Arbres et Arbustes qui se Cultivent en France en Pleine Terre, published in Paris by H. L. Guerin and L. F. Delatour in two volumes in 1755, described the trees and shrubs grown in France with some 250 woodcut plates. Many of the woodcuts were printed from the sixteenth-century blocks cut by Giorgio Liberale and Wolfgang Meyerpeck for the herbal of Pietro Andrea Mattioli, which Duhamel acquired for his book.

Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau (1700-1782) was a French botanist, agronomist and naval engineer, inspector general of the French navy and member of the Academie des Sciences, author of standard works on trees, fruit trees, forestry and shipbuilding.
