Duke of Wellington Manuscript Signed Envelope
Framed picture of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, with a manuscript signed free frank envelope dated December thirteenth 1838. Arthur Wellesley was born in Dublin, and entered the British army as an ensign in 1787. He rose through the ranks and after considerable success against Imperial French forces on the Iberian Peninsula was named a field marshal. When Napoleon returned from exile, he had already accepted the title of "Duke of Wellington", and led British forces in ending Napoleon's threat for the final time at Waterloo. Later he was twice Command in Chief of the British Army Prime Minister under George IV and William IV. One of the only British subjects given a state funeral, he was voted #15 on the list of the 100 greatest Britons in 2002. Frame is 9" x 13.5" (22.8 cm x 34.2 cm).
