Dutch Independence Cast Iron Fireback Dated 1664
probably German for the Dutch market, 17th century, arched top inscribed ''HOLLANDIA'' and surmounted by a shell crest flanked by dolphins above ''PRO PATRIA'' and a reclining female figure holding a pike alongside a Dutch lion wielding a sword, dated "1664" flanked with the letters ''HH'' and ''IS'', 28-3/4 x 21-1/2 in. - Note: The Victoria and Albert Museum in London has a similar cast iron fireback without the inscribed "Hollandia" at top and the date is missing at bottom.
