inscribed 'P: Justus de visscher natus - ** 1588/ eni Soc. Aen Jesu ingressus/ 2: octob. Ao 1612' (upper left) and bears inscriptions 'Obit Leovardice/ 10 Septembus 1624./ Aetatis. 36.' (upper right)

Originally from Embden, East Frisia, Justus de Visscher was sent to Denmark as a Jesuit missionary in the early 1620s but was not able to stay long due to a Royal Decree issued in February 1624 making it illegal for Jesuits and monks to appear in the country.
