The facial features in this work follow those depicted in Adriaen Thomasz. Keys' portrait of Wilhelm I of Orange which is now housed in the Rijksmuseum (inv. no. SK-A-3148). The clothing is here replaced by a breastplate and the sitter is depicted bare-headed.
The work is registered in the archives of the RKD in The Hague under the number 138907.
