\Artist: Dutch School of the XIX Century
Technique: Oil on panel\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 51_45_8_cm
Dutch School Mid-XIX Century - Title : A boy sleeping on the hay with his faithful dog by his side. Oil on board - Not signed - Circa Mid -19th Century A beautifully tactile and finely painted Mid-19th Century oil on board painting with hay harvesting theme. The boy rests; perhaps after helping with the haymaking while his faithful dog also rests by his side. This exquisite painting is housed within it's original heavy gilt ornate frame and is offered to auction in good condition for it's antiquity. The tones a most beautiful and the atmosphere can almost be felt 150 years later . Overall dimensions of the frame are 51 cm x 45 cm x 8 cm and the painting showing within the front aperture measures 32 cm x 24 cm . Condition report. In good overall condition given it's age. There are a few tiny signs of re-touching but they are well blended in ; but there is minimal intervention or restoration work apparent to the painting surface. It appears that the gilt frame has been most probably re-coloured and repaired but to a very good level of presentation ( see photographs) . The artists board is not warped or split. The colours have darkened from the original tonality but evenly and still offer wonderful colour depth and if anything the patina of this in our opinion adds to the charm of the painting. There is some small paint shrinkage mainly to the sitters chest area commensurate to it's age but hardly noticeable when hung. We cannot guarantee safe shipping of antique picture frames. We would also point out that whilst we insure all paintings before shipping that we have no control over shipping once we have sent the painting and there have been reported delays on occasions due to the pandemic and post-Brexit issues at borders. The successful bidder will be responsible for paying any import duties and any associated VAT in the country of destination . Please refer to the auction terms regarding this before bidding. Shipping will be reduced for The Netherlands to 65 euros.
