Schulz is mentioned multiple times in the book; on page 323, Ike describes his trusty aide: "Major Robert L. Schulz, now Brigadier General, U.S.A. (Ret.), has been with me for twenty-one years, is usually the first to see me of a morning in my office and the last to see me off at night. No crisis, even the small ones that upset most people, ever seem to unhinge him. He is the ingrained optimist who believes things will always work out; and he does everything he can to make them work out."
