Letter to White House doorkeeper and chief receptionist William Simmons and his wife, in full: "Many thanks to you both for the nice birthday cake I found on my desk this morning. Mrs. Whitman tells me its baking took your combined efforts, and that it was made from a favorite Virginia recipe." The president adds a brief postscript: "Thank you, too, for providing the most important element in a wonderful mid-morning 'birthday party,' and giving me a chance to see some of my associates that I don't get to see very often." Matted and framed with the original mailing envelope to an overall size of 21 x 16.25. In fine condition.
