Dwight Eisenhower TLS Re: Republican Women
TLS

A typed letter from 34th President Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969) to one Mary A. Lehman, Secretary for the Council of Republican Women of York County. 1p on personal letterhead, measuring 7.125" x 10.375", Gettysburg, PA, dated June 5, 1961. Boldly signed at the conclusion as "Dwight Eisenhower". Within, the former President responds to Lehman's invitation to speak at an upcoming celebration for Abraham Lincoln's birthday. Accompanied by the letter's original transmittal envelope, postmarked the same day from Gettysburg. Exhibits flattened letter folds, with minor toning and surface creasing throughout. Expected wear to envelope. A fine example overall.

In full:
"Thank you for your cordial invitation extended on behalf of the Council of Republican Women of York County to be the guest speaker on the occasion of the Lincoln Day Dinner to be held at the Hotel Yorktowne on Saturday, either February tenth or seventeenth.
However, I have laid out for myself a schedule of work that is already far heavier than I had anticipated; I cannot add to it except under unusual and compelling circumstances.
I regret my inability to give you an affirmative answer, and hope that at some appropriate time you will convey my greeting and best wishes to the Republican Women of York County."

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
