Dwyer, Lecturer on, and Teacher of Elocution, Third Edition printed for the author by Northway & Porter, Printers, Utica, NY, 1829; copyright by J.H. Dwyer, 1824, District of Ohio [Cincinnati].

Hard boards, cloth spine [spine cloth damages and repairs: see photos]; 4.1/2" x 7.1/2"; name inside cover, slightly damaged front endpaper; 301 pages + Contents, some small corner damage, some foxing, good condition.

This book was reprinted until the middle of the 1850s. Different editions contain variations and different selected essays.

John Hanbury Dwyer (1780-1843), an Irish-born actor, immigrated to the United States in 1811. He acted in the Albany, NY theater for many years until he retired from the stage in 1839. Dwyer also toured the country, giving a series of recitations "from the most admired authors." (Reference: H.P. Phelps, Players of a Century: A Record of the Albany Stage [Albany, 1880], 46-47; Joel Munsell, The Annals of Albany [10 vols.; Albany, 1849-59], 4:283; Boston Daily Atlas, 21 Dec. 1843; Washington Daily National Journal, 15 June 1830].
