Tableaux de l'Habillement, des Moeurs et des Coutumes dans la République Batave, au commencement du dix-neuvième siècle. Amsterdam, E. Maaskamp, (1803-07) ; Frontispiece & 20 old colored costume plates: dotted engravings by Louis Portman after designs by Jaques Kuyper, manually colored under the supervision of Jan Willem Pieneman and provided with a Dutch and French explanation; mentioned as printers Maaskamp Amsterdam & Colnaghi London, dated 1803-05 (pl 1-16) & 1807 (pl 17-20) Old half-leather binding (27. 5 × 23 cm, spine defective, joints split, boards partly loose, edges worn) , pages slightly tanned, somewhat well-thumbed on edges; fresh colours Evert Maaskamp (1769-1834) painter, publisher, book and print dealer who became familiar with this kind of 'tourist' publications. See: Eveline Koolhaas-Grosfeld, 'The discovery of the Dutchman in books and prints around 1800' (Zutphen, Walburg Pers, 2010) The publication appeared between 1803 and 1807 in 5 cahiers, each with 4 plates; the first compilation with introduction and explanation appeared in 1807; in the second printing in 1811 4 plates were added. An English edition was also published in 1808 through collaboration with the London firm of Colnaghi & Sons.
