E. & L.P. NORTON ANTIQUE 2 GALLON CROCK VERMONT 1859

Antique E. & L.P. Norton, Bennington, Vermont Crock c. 1859-1879. This antique 19th c. crock features a the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Freehand Leaf. The cobalt is shiny and really stands out from the exceptionally clean glaze. Measures 9" tall and 9 3/4" wide across the top. A few age expected chips to rim. Weight 8 lbs 13 oz.In 1785, six years before Vermont became a state, Captain John Norton founded what was to become the longest lived pottery works in Bennington Vermont. This first pottery sold crocks, jugs, milk pans, etc. to the local residents. For over one hundred years it was to remain a family owned and operated business. PROVENANCE: A Private Collection of a New England Noted Americana Collector and Dealer.
