EARLY AMERICAN DECORATED STONEWARE WATER COOLER
EARLY AMERICAN DECORATED STONEWARE WATER COOLER, salt-glazed, "1 1/2" gallon capacity, bold ovoid form with flared flat-top rim, two open upright handles, and small bunghole at base, clamshell cut-off lines under base. Expressive cobalt brushed and slip-trailed stylized butterfly and sunburst decoration on both sides, each handle with stripes, cloud-like terminal surrounds, and a three-petal sprig below. Probably New York or New Jersey. 1780-1800.
Condition: Excellent visual condition, professional restoration to a small hole to right of decoration on front and a medial horizontal hairline, two handle terminals appear to have some restoration, handles seem to be intact.
Size: 12 1/2" H, 5 3/4" D rim, 5 3/4" D base.
