Title: EARTH MAN ON VENUS * One-Shot
Place Published:
Publisher:Avon [Indicia: Avon Periodicals, Inc.]
Date Published: 1951 (Street date of January 23, according to GCD)
Description:

CGC certified: Good- (1.8). Off-white to white pages. Cover: Gene Fawcette. Art: Wally Wood. GPAnalysis: No recorded sales in this grade. Most recent comparable result: a 2.5 sold for $250 in September 2019.

Buggin' Out: this mag features a 25-page Wally Wood epic in which an Earthman fights giant ants on Venus for the love of a winged, antennae'd insect woman. Wood drew another "Earthman mates with literal lady-bug" story about six months after this mag was published; see "The Maidens Cried" in EC's Weird Science #10 (Nov.-Dec., 1951).

What psychosexual impulse underlies these weird tales of insectoid lust? We risked contaminating our Google search history so you wouldn't have to, and according to Wikipedia, "Formicophilia, a form of zoophilia, is the sexual interest in being crawled upon or nibbled by insects... This paraphilia often involves the application of insects to the genitals, but other areas of the body may also be the focus. The desired effect may be a tickling, stinging, or in the case of slugs, slimy sensation." For the ultimate funnybook expression of this form of interspecies depravity, curious readers are advised to consult Dan Clowes' "Needledick the Bug-Fucker" (Eightball #7, 1989).

A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.
