EAST TENNESSEE / SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA GREAT ROAD EARTHENWARE / REDWARE JARS, LOT OF TWO, lead- and manganese-glazed, comprising one covered approximately one-gallon ovoid example having applied arched handles and beaded foot, and one approximately half-gallon 6 7/8" H wide-mouth slightly ovoid example with protruding foot, having old collection sticker attributing to Wythe County. Cover is appropriate and well-fitting but displays different glaze from jar. Covered jar attributed to Henkel-Spigle Pottery, Botetourt Co., VA. Second quarter to third quarter 19th century.
Condition: Large example with a few flakes to rim edge, cover with numerous chips and flakes to edge, having glaze wear to handles; small example with minor chips to base edge.
Size: 11 1/2" HOA, 5 3/8" D rim.
