School watches produced by the watchmaking schools of the Vallée de Joux are highly interesting witnesses to the region’s long tradition of technical education and precision watchmaking.
The present watch is particularly noteworthy for its perpetual calendar, a considerably more demanding complication than the simple calendar mechanisms commonly encountered in school watches. The importance of the present example is further enhanced by the survival of its original presentation box, engraved “EPVJ”, as well as its original rate certificate (“Bulletin de marche”) dated 20 March 1961. These original documents provide valuable evidence of the watch’s provenance and its direct association with the educational environment of the Vallée de Joux.
Size: 47 mm.
