EDISON GOLD MOULDED RECORDS
Description:
Collection of thirty Edison Gold Moulded Records. The black wax cylindrical records come in cardboard tubes, 2.5 x 4.75 in., lined with cotton. The label on the outside of each tube bears a portrait image of Thomas Edison and declares the retailer as ‘National Phonograph Co.' in Orange, New Jersey. Only one tube is lacking a lid and one record is lacking a tube, else each piece is complete. Unfortunately, one of the records is partially broken, while the rest remain intact, though none have been audio tested. Edison introduced these records in 1902, made from a master mould thus requiring only a single performance by an artist. This improvement allowed for easier mass production and could also be played at a higher speed giving a superior quality of sound. Expected wear from age.
