Gift from the Artist to the present owner, c. late 1970s.
The set is a celebration of American modernist composer, Charles Ives, with each print titled after one of his songs. The works feature imagery related to musical notation and are intended as a visual representation of the music. The individual prints of this set are titled and dated as follows: ‘Allegro Moderato Fireman's Parade’ 1974, ‘Central Park in the Dark Some 40 Years Ago’ 1974, ‘The Children's Hour’ 1974, ‘Largo to Presto’ 1974, ‘Aeschylus and Socrates’ 1975, ‘Calcium Light Night’ 1975, ‘Four German Songs’ 1975, ‘From Early Italian Poets’ 1975 and ‘Nettleton’ 1977. Paolozzi started work on the set while in Berlin in 1974 and the printing took place at Advanced Graphics from 1974-1976.
