Oil on canvas, lined. Paint surface with a fine network of craquelure, somewhat thin in places and with isolated older areas of retouching. Slight colour abrasion along the margins.
Under UV light areas of retouching visible on the books, in the foreground and background, and along the margins. Varnish fluoresces unevenly greenish.
Frame: 73.4 × 82.6 cm.
