7 volumes, folio (485 x 295mm.), engraved additional title and portrait, both plain, 362 hand-coloured engraved plates, nineteenth century half morocco, plate 75 holed with loss, some spotting to text of the Gleanings, a few marginal repairs, plate 304 torn through and repaired

The large-paper edition of Edwards’s ornithological classic, with sumptuous hand-colour.
“[The plates] appear as though they had been transferred from drawings or printed sheets, and not printed from copper plates… All the plates are exceptionally finely colored and of softer finish than those of the original edition” (Zimmer).
