DEPARTURE FOR THE HUNT
oil on canvas
34⅜ by 48 in.
87.3 by 121.9 cm
Condition Report:
The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
Not examined out of the frame. This work is in good condition. The canvas has been lined with wax as an adhesive. The paint layer is stable and well textured. It is cleaned and varnished.
In the sky, there are three vertical retouches. One is in the lower center sky, about 2 inches long, addressing a scratch in the paint layer. There are two in the upper center, one about 3 inches long and the other about 2 inches long, both addressing scratches or possibly thin breaks in the canvas.
The condition is very good throughout the architecture, figures and animals. There is a small group of retouches addressing some losses in the palace wall to the right of the elephant. There are a few small dots of retouching in the darkest thinly applied pigments in the canopy to the left of the seated figure on the elephant. There are a few small retouches addressing thinness to the left of the large elephant’s trunk, and in the dark doorway behind the figure on the left. There are a few other small spots of retouching in the darker colors.
The work should be hung in its current condition.
