EGYPTIAN FAIENCE NECKLACE WITH BES AMULET
712-30 BC, Late Period/Ptolemaic. A beautiful restrung necklace comprising multi-coloured discoid and tubular faience beads as well as a beautiful Bes amulet depicting the god as a grotesque, bearded dwarf, with a mask with hybrid monkey-lion features, and an animal’s tail. Bes’s role was as a of women, the household, children, and he was particularly linked to the critical phase of labour and birth. Good condition. Wearable Size: L: 270mm; 6.71g. Provenance: Private UK collection; formerly in a USA collection; acquired by Mr. E.E. in the 1940s in Egypt.
