EIGHT CHINESE LACQUERED WOOD FIGURES Ming Dynasty and later 明及後期 漆木人物雕像八件 Comprising a figure of an official in traditional dress seated atop a horseshoe-back chair and his feet atop a mythical beast, together with three additional seated figures, a figure of a warrior riding atop a small horse, and two standing figures, 15 - 21.5cm high (8) - PROVENANCE: From the collection of Augustus Fletcher (1928-2020), thence by descent. From 1948 to 1958 Gus Fletcher served in the Colonial Police in Malaya, and latterly was Assistant Superintendent of Police and Area Special Branch Officer in the Kuala Pilau and Bahau Police Districts of Negri Sembilan. He was awarded the George Medal in 1957 after a combined police and military operation code-named “Googly” during the Malayan Emergency.
