ELEVEN CHINESE WOOD FIGURES 19th - 20th Century 十九至二十世紀 木人物雕像十一件 Comprising a carved wood figure of a seated figure marked Bei Di, a gilt-lacquered figure of the infant Buddha wearing a textile robe, a figure of a child standing on one leg, a lacquered figure of Guanyin seated atop a raised base, three painted figures of seated nobles, two figures of warriors, and two additional painted seated figures, 14 - 23cm high (11) - PROVENANCE: From the collection of Augustus Fletcher (1928-2020), thence by descent. From 1948 to 1958 Gus Fletcher served in the Colonial Police in Malaya, and latterly was Assistant Superintendent of Police and Area Special Branch Officer in the Kuala Pilau and Bahau Police Districts of Negri Sembilan. He was awarded the George Medal in 1957 after a combined police and military operation code-named “Googly” during the Malayan Emergency.
