Signed, dated and numbered 3/30 in pencil, lower margin. From the I am the Negro Woman series.This fine impression is an extremely scarce, early printing from Elizabeth Catlett's 1946-47 important series of fifteen linoleum cuts I am the Negro Woman. Catlett printed this first edition in 1947 while she was a visiting artist at the artist print collective Taller de Gráfica Popular in Mexico City. The series was exhibited in December of 1947 in her first solo exhibiton Paintings Sculpture and Prints of the Negro Woman at the Barnett-Aden Gallery in Washington, DC.There is a later series, entitled I am the Black Woman and printed in an edition of 20 by Bob Blackburn's Printmaking Workshop, New York in 1989.
