- ADDITIONAL NOTES: A nearly identical sculpture lot: 87 sold Christies New York on 10/18/2000 for 42,000 USD ? Height 29 inches. Another nearly identical sculpture lot: 33 sold Sotheby?s New York on 10/23/2007 for 40,000 USD ? Height 29.5 inches. Lastly; Another nearly identical sculpture lot: 154 sold Christies London, King Street on 5/14/1998 for 39,690 USD ? Height 29.53 inches.

- CATALOGUE NOTE: Boisseau studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, under Augustin-Alexandre Dumont and Jean-Marie Bonnassieux. The sculptor was well known for his graceful groups of women and children. His most celebrated group was his Le Crepuscule, which shows a winged personification of Dusk sheltering two sleeping putti (see the preceding lot). It was exhibited at the Salon in 1870 and won the prestigious gold medal, before being purchased for the Elysee Palace.
