This refined French edition presents Zola’s sweeping naturalist saga—his defining literary achievement—chronicling the social, political, and psychological fabric of Second Empire France across multiple generations. Widely regarded as one of the great literary cycles of the 19th century, Les Rougon-Macquart stands alongside Balzac’s Comédie Humaine as a cornerstone of European literature. Each volume is elegantly bound in rich burgundy leather, with gilt-decorated spines and covers featuring a cohesive Parisian architectural motif. The set retains its uniform presentation, enhanced by decorative endpapers and silk ribbon markers, creating a commanding and harmonious shelf presence. The overall aesthetic is unmistakably that of a Parisian salon or private European library—a key factor in its cross-market desirability. This is a complete, uniform Zola sets in decorative French leather bindings are increasingly sought after for both literary and interior design purposes—with provenance of this caliber rarely encountered. Pierre Chambrin (1947-2024) is a French-born American chef who served as the White House Executive Chef from 1989 to 1994. Chambrin was born in Paris on September 13, 1947. In 1979 Chambrin took over the Washington, D.C. restaurant Maison Blanche, located near the White House. Chambrin was appointed under the presidency of George H. W. Bush to succeed Hans Raffert. He was succeeded by Walter Scheib. After leaving the White House, Chambrin became the executive chef at the Saint Louis Club in St. Louis, Missouri.
