EMMANUEL ANDRÉ CAVACOS (Potamos, Greece, 1885- France, probably Paris, 1976).
"Gozo", Art Deco.
Terracotta.
Signed on the base.
Damaged.
Exhibitions: "European sculpture of the 20th century", European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM), Barcelona, 2014.
Measurements: 56 cm. high.
The piece in tender is a good representative of the art of Emmanuel André Cavacos, where his sense of rhythm stands out. In fact, this or another version was exhibited when he returned from the United States in an exhibition that the Milch Gallery in New York dedicated to him in the spring of 1930, and even illustrated the cover of the catalogue.
Cavacos was a well-known figure in the Parisian art colony of the early 20th century. He emigrated to the United States in 1901 with his family and settled in Baltimore with the firm of E. Cavacos. In 1911 he was awarded the Rinehart scholarship, which enabled him to return to Europe and attend the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was commissioned to paint portraits of notable citizens such as Mistinguett, Bucot and Marcelle Ragnon. In 1925, Cavacos was awarded the silver medal at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris. His work can be found in several important collections, including that of Queen Maria of Romania, who acquired one of his marble figures.
