Sturdy English Oak Armchair with crested back and dated rail, the molded back panel having carved initials 'NC' & 'IC' flanking a heart, substantial squared frame with tapered plank seat, shaped plank arms ending in a square pierced by the supporting posts, the front legs with mitered corner relief, broad well worn stretchers at floor level, all wood peg construction, museum accession no. 1961.160 painted on back, 16 1/4" seat, 25" arms, 37 1/2" back, 28" x 22". Wonderful patina. Condition commensurate with age and use. Provenance: From the Estate of Frank Cowan
