¶ Ex bibliotheca Christiaan Kleiss (1924-2015). First edition of a groundbreaking early 20th-cent. English children’s picture book illustrated by the Russian artist Feodor Stepanovich Rojankovsky (1891-1970) & published by the American illustrator Esther Averill (1902-1992) and her business partner Lila Stanley. The text was printed in Argenteuil by Robert Coulouma & the illustrations were printed in Paris by “Mourlot Frères”. “[..] Rojankovsky created Daniel Boone in 1931 featuring fauvist-inspired lithographs celebrating Boone and the American West. The plates were prohibitive to print, so Averill and Stanley started their own Domino Press to print the book. Daniel Boone set a new direction in children’s books [..]” (cited from Wikipedia). ¶ Both covers sl. soiled/ discol., but nevertheless in good condition.
