Cal 44. S# 10742. This is an interesting oddity in that this was a nice martial survivor, all original in very good condition. Revolver was later engraved after it left service. Standard configuration made in 1851, 7.5" octagonal to round barrel, German silver blade front sight, 1-line New York City address. Frame stamped "COLT'S PATENT" / "U.S.". The distinctive square back brass trigger guard & backstrap contain original walnut grip which is well worn but has correct inked matching serial number. Cylinder has the Ormsby engraved Dragoon-Indian fight scene and "U. S. M. R. / COLT'S PATENT" cartouches surrounding the S#. Sub inspector's initial "B" (Joseph Bragg) is still visible in the engraving on bbl, cylinder, triggerguard, backstrap, and left side of hammer. Revolver is scroll engraved in New York style with patriotic shield engraved on trigger bow. CONDITION: very good overall, complete, matching S#s on every part including wedge and inked inside grips, the markings are fine including the engraved patterns, the original grip has an old glued repair. (01-29825/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
