Cf. Duboise is best known for both the offered lot, Le Pardon, and his monumental figural bronze war memorial that stands in the square Carnot in Dieppe. The monument depicts a French infantryman, a marine and an aviator shown draping the French flag around the winged figure VICTORY. The bronze was originally meant to memorialize the hundreds of men born in Dieppe killed in the First World War, however, it was soon to be rededicated to also honor both the soldiers and French civilians killed in the Second World War including the tens of thousands deported by the Germans to fates unknown from 1939 to 1945.
