[ESTIENNE, Charles] De re hortensi libellus [...]. Cui nuper additus est alius libellus De cultu & satione hortoru[m], ex antiquoru[m] sententia. Paris R. End 18th-c. three-quarter sheep, marbled paper covers, gilt-ruled flat spine (spine and lower cover sl. rubbed, two wormholes on front cover, shelfmark label on front pastedown). New augmented edition (1st 1535) of Charles Estienne's third book for children, the first to contain the "De cultu & satione hortorum", and the first to be based on Charles' own information drawn from his interest and knowledge of botany. It teaches the names, also in French, and appearances of trees, flowers and plants usually planted in gardens. This ed. also contains a new preface, dedicated by Charles Estienne to his 8-year old nephew Henri. Estienne's mark on title. Ref.
