ETRUSCAN TERRACOTTA VOTIVE LEFT FOOT

Circa 100-200 AD. Either votive or from a statue, hollow moulded, naturalistically modelled, the integral base with two rectangular apertures, traces of red pigment remaining. In Etruscan religion it was believed that the gods had an influence over personal health. As such, suppliants dedicated votive offerings of their afflicted body parts in hopes that they would then be cured of their ailments.
