LOT NOTES
This painting of George Hugnet (French 1906-1974) emphasizes the expression of internal feelings of loneliness, wonder and youthful beauty. Hugnet's male form is an innocent and lonely romantic vision of the artist, who is bridging his love for surrealism and with Neo-classical tradition.
An artist, a poet and a writer himself, Hugnet was a close friend of Eugene Berman. Both artists collaborated with other famous artists of the time such as Picasso, Miro, Duchamp and Cocteau, and belonged to Gertrude Stein circle.
The drawings are expressive and emotional and are great examples of Berman's nostalgic romantic vision.
