EUGENIO GÓMEZ MIR
EUGENIO GÓMEZ MIR (Granada, 1877 - 1938).
"Horse race".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 50 x 75 cm; 65 x 91 cm (frame).
Gómez Mir began his artistic career close to the aesthetic patterns of modernism, focusing his production on drawings in pen and watercolour, to later adopt a fully post-impressionist language, mainly in oil on canvas or cardboard. Most of his creations depict various landscapes of his native Granada, both natural and urban views, or emblematic corners of the city. However, he also cultivated still lifes, combining flowers, fruit, game and all kinds of objects. His mature language is characterised by a dense, energetic, gestural brushstroke and a free and expressive use of colour, of Fauve heritage, based on lively contrasts and masses of colour of great luminosity. Today Gómez Mir's works are represented in important art centres such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Granada.
