EXCEPTIONALLY CARVED WHALEMAN-MADE CANE 19th Century

Whale ivory knob handle with delicate relief floral and foliate carving surrounding a vacant cartouche. Large flower blossom at top of handle and a band of acanthus leaves around circumference of stem. Elongated ebony and ivory collar with a thin fruitwood band and a relief-carved snake whose head and body wraps continuously around the circumference of both the wood and ivory components. Fruitwood shaft with sawtooth ebony inlay at upper portion and a thin whale ivory band. Whalebone ferrule. Length 36".

Condition: Very minor loss of inlay on shaft.
