Eagle Stencil Salt Glazed Stone Churn

9 x 15 inches. An American salt-glazed stoneware butter churn of three-gallon capacity. The vessel features a cream-colored glazed exterior decorated with a blue cobalt-stenciled mark on the upper body. The mark consists of a stylized eagle with wings spread, perched atop a circle containing a stenciled numeral 3. The churn is equipped with two side-mounted ears holding wire bail handles with blue-painted wooden grips. It includes a dark-stained wooden lid with a central aperture and a wooden dasher handle terminating in a four-blade cross-shaped wooden plunger. The bottom of the churn is unglazed and shows a coarse, light-colored ceramic body.
