Title: Early 19th Century Antique George IV Sterling Silver Gilt Large Cup & Cover London 1828 Benjamin Smith III
Description: A truly magnificent and highly collectable silver gilt cup and cover made by the highly renowned silversmith Benjamin Smith. The body is finely decorated with lower ‘stiff leafage’ embellishments and applied upper grape and vine castings for highlights. The centre front has stylish ‘horse racing’ scene’s which is surrounded with elegant presentation engraving. The centre back has additional presentation engravings of the highly collectable ‘masonic’ connotations.

Weight: 124 troy ounces/3882 grams

Height: 18 inches/46cm

Width: 11 inches/28cm (back of handle to back of opposite handle)

Diameter: 9 inches/23cm

Condition: Excellent throughout

Note: The inscriptions read as follows “Presented to the Bombay Turf Club Members of the lodge of Freemasons Bombay Benevolent No 746 in return for the very handsome manner in which the Turf Club granted the Lodge The Use of The Race Stand House for their Masonic Meetings”

The opposite side reads “Presented by W.Bro John h Whadcoat, P.M 448, P.P.G Warden W. Yorks To The West Yorkshire Library & Museum. October 1920”
