Early 19th Century Tyrolean Engraved Horn Snuff Box

An exceptionally fine early 19th-century Tyrolean horn snuff box (Sterzinger Hornarbeit, c. 1820–1850), expertly constructed from pressed, translucent variegated bovine horn panels secured with internal pin rivets. The exterior is meticulously hand-engraved with deep scrimshaw-style incisions infilled with black, brown, and red organic pigments. The lid features a striking, heraldic composition of two mythical unicorns flanking a central rosette blossom amidst dense acanthus foliage, while the side panels depict traditional Alpine folk narratives, including a leaping stag in a mountainous landscape and a watchdog near a cottage under a rising sun. Retaining its original flush-fit brass piano hinge, this collectible piece of European folk art remains in very good antique condition with a rich, uniform honey-colored patina and minimal age-related wear. Box measures 0.75 inches high, 3.25 x 2.125 inches. Overall good condition, please see photos.
