Early 20th C. PNG Boiken Palmwood Fighting Stick

Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Boiken area, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A broad, club-like fighting stick made from palmwood from the coastal Boiken region of northern Papua New Guinea. It has an elongated ovoid form that gently tapers to a narrow handle on one end. Woven string is wrapped around the upper part of the handle, which has been coated with a thick, earthy pigment, as has the surface of the stick. Size: 2.45" W x 33.5" H (6.2 cm x 85.1 cm); 35" H (88.9 cm) on included custom stand.
