Oceania, Papua New Guinea, East Sepik River region, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A wonderful wood food bowl hand-carved with twin, openwork handles and heads facing inwards. This large tray like vessel may have been a feasting platter for serving a crowd of people or used as a bridal dowry. Size: 24" L x 15" W x 5" H (61 cm x 38.1 cm x 12.7 cm)

Provenance: private Constance McCormick Fearing estate, Montecito, California, USA, acquired before 2004
