[ translate ]

Approximately 11 inches square, this salver/tray was made by S. Kirk & Son from Baltimore, Maryland and is the largest of the commonly seen salvers. Most are only 6, 8 or even 9 inches. The silver standard mark on this salver is the Baltimore 11 oz. hallmark. During this period most American silversmiths not in Baltimore worked in coin or sterling silver. The marks stamped on this salver were used by S. Kirk & Son between the years 1880 and 1890. The salver is made with a highly repousse floral border that is approximately 1 1/2 inches wide. The bottom of the tray is hand engraved with an overall "diamond" motif. The bottom center of the salver has an engraved wreath of laurel leaves leaving space for a monogram.; The salver is engraved with what appears to be a hand engraved "MBL". There are no other monograms or engraving on the salver, front or back. It stands on four claw and ball feet. There is one very minor dent that is difficult to get to show up in a photograph, but it is there. It will probably only ever be seen and noticed by you as it is minor. The tray is in very good antique condition and only shows minor wear appropriate for its age of about 130 years. There is a 12 ounce soda can in one photograph for size comparison.; This tray weighs approximately 25 troy ounces.
