Maker: J.R. Mills & Co.

History of Maker: J.R. Mills & Co. was the first company to produce clocks with Aaron D. Crane, a self-taught clockmaker from Newark, New Jersey who received the first patent for a clock using a torsion pendulum in 1841. J.R. Mills & Co. only created clocks for a few years and Crane later went on to found the Year Clock Co. in New York. One of Crane's more ornate creations is currently in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Condition: This clock is composed of 80% of its original parts though it is unclear exactly which pieces have been replaced and which are original.
