École Européene (XIX), D'après Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier - Le fumeur de pipe

[ translate ]

- Oil on panel.
- Elegant tableautin following one of the classic models of the genre, the work of the French academic painter Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier. The bourgeois market of the second half of the 19th century demanded a large number of works of careful and exquisite execution presenting themes considered "elegant", among which the pompous scenes of eighteenth-century characters were the favorites. Without any desire for discourse, with the creation of pleasant and decorative paintings as their only goal, an entire generation of painters in all the countries of Europe left aside the social realism that triumphed in the salons to dedicate themselves to painting courtly entertainments, chubby cardinals snorting snuff, smokers with tricorn hats, and frivolous young ladies accepting Casanova's flattery.
- Unframed image dimensions: 22 x 40 cm / 56 x 37 cm with beautiful original gold frame.
- It comes from a private painting collection in Rome.
- Good general condition. Minimal faults.
- Montbaron Gallery attaches a technical sheet prepared by a qualified art historian with all its lots. This sheet is sent in digital format and on demand.
- Shipping costs are indicative.
- Important: Due to the fragile nature of old frames, shipping companies do not provide compensation for damage to frames. We make great efforts to ensure the protection of paintings, but we cannot accept complaints about damage to frames.
