Economics.- [Collection of c.1,500 offprints, journal issues, monographs and pamphlets relating to economics], many with Nobel Prize Winner Richard Stone's ink ownership inscription, a small number signed or inscribed, majority in English, many in French, German, Italian, and Russian, mostly in original wrappers, v.s., [20th-century]. (16 boxes)
*** An extensive collection of works relating to economics. Most are original offprints of journal articles with a smaller number of entire journal issues, separately printed monographs or pamphlets, and also pre-publications discussions, or seminar working papers. Many relate to Richard Stone's main research interests in econometrics and national income accounting.
Richard Stone won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics in 1984 for his essential contribution to the development systems of national accounts, which greatly improved the basis for empirical economic analysis, and later had an international scale.
In the 1950s, he offered the first concrete statistical means by which we can measure government spending, measure investment, and consumption. He model was later adapted for organisations, such as the United Nations. He was the first to use double-entry accounting, which states that every income item on one side of the balance sheet, must be met by an expenditure item on the opposite side of the accounting sheet. This system is the basis of nearly all modern accounting used today.
