Edouard Courché born in 1869, French Still life with mandolin, tambourine and oranges Painting, oil on canvas Signed and dated 1893 Painting: 50 x 61 cm (19. 7 x 24 inches) Beautiful frame: 64 x 76 cm (25. 2 x 29. 9 inches) Very good condition Superb colors and beautiful light. Edouard Courché was a teacher at the School of Fine Arts in Le Havre. This still life presents a rare subject at that time: oranges were so rare (and expensive) that they were only eaten at the end of the year celebrations. Edouard Courché chose to make it a Spanish or Italian subject by painting oranges with a mandolin with a tambourine. A favorite.
